Transvestite
By Francine Shuttleworth

Transvestitism is something that has been prevalent throughout history. Although some may find the topic somewhat sensitive the reality is that being a Transvestite is quite common. J Edgar Hoover, the infamous American president was wildly believed to be a Transvestite and would often take meetings dressed in ladies clothing. More recently the notably funny and similarly accomplished comedian Eddie Izzard was made famous for the fact that he wore ladies clothes. Contrary to popular belief its not all roses, being a Transvestite. No, there`s still a lot of skepticism and judgementalism attached to it. Transvestites are cross dressers who cross dress strictly for sexual reasons. Most cross dressers/Transvestites are straight men, contrary to popular belief. If you would like to know more about being a Transvestite... call your local support group who will be able to arrange something for you.

Tartan kilts have long been commonly associated with Scotland but the origins of tartan are actually not very well known. Examples of tartan have been found the deserts of western China and on 300 year old mummies in Egypt. The earliest example of tartan in the British Isles was the Falkirk tartan discovered in the mouth of a roman earthenware pot believed to date from 400AD. Clan tartans became popular in the beginning of the 19th century. Generally the richer the clan the more elaborate and colourful the tartan kilts would be. On April 8th 1815 the Highland Society of London decreed that a tartan registry was required asking that every clan chief `be respectfully solicited to furnish the Society with as Much of the Tartan of his Lordship`s Clan as will serve to Show the Pattern and to Authenticate the Same by Attaching Thereunto a Card bearing the Impression of his Lordship`s Arms.` Anyone can design a tartan and name it any way they wish to, but an official tartan can only be authorised by a clan chief. There are even a number of ?general` tartan kilts that can be worn by anyone who wishes to ? the most famous of these being the Black Watch tartan.
